WIFF seeking submissions for 2023 festival

Did you make a film this past year?

The Windsor International Film Festival is looking for local submissions.

The festival presents an extensive slate of local programming each year, including feature-length and short films. Last year, it highlighted five feature films and 14 short films, including one about the history of Willistead Manor.

Submissions opened last Monday, and local filmmakers have until August 11 to enter. Filmmakers will find out in September if their film was accepted.

All local submissions are reviewed and selected by an independent jury of industry professionals.

"WIFF is created and sustained by members of our community," said Executive Director and Chief Programmer Vincent Georgie. "It is very important for us to highlight some of the great talent right here in Windsor-Essex."

According to WIFF's website, up to 50 submissions are anticipated.

"Every year, our audiences fill the theatres to support the local talent presented on screen. We can't wait to see what our local filmmakers have been working on," added Georgie.

Last year's event broke records with 45,000 tickets sold.

A Windsor woman holds the record for watching the most films at WIFF. She viewed 77.

This year's Windsor International Film Festival runs from October 26 to November 5, 2023.
