Cooking fire at west Walkerville home leaves three displaced

When a home in Walkerville caught ablaze on Saturday evening, Windsor Fire & Rescue Services quickly responded to the scene.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the fire service asked the public to avoid the area of Parent Avenue and Niagara Street, just one block north of the Erie Street East intersection.

A witness shared an image showing multiple emergency vehicles outside the home.

An update from the fire department came shortly after 6 p.m. They confirmed that nobody was injured, however, three people were displaced as a result of the blaze.

The cause of the incident was determined as careless cooking, per a Tweet from Windsor Fire & Rescue Services. Damages were an estimated $250,000.

A similar incident took place the previous day just a few blocks over at Pierre Street and Niagara Street.
