Police make arrest in assault investigation

Windsor police have arrested and charged one suspect after an assault in downtown Windsor Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were called to Church Street near University Avenue around 4:30 p.m. The victim told police the suspect was tampering with property at the location and when he was asked to stop he got physical. Police report the victim was struck in the head with a shovel multiple times and was also punched and kicked several times.

The suspect took off before the police arrived.

The victim was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A 36-year-old from Windsor has been charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. Since his arrest, he has also been identified as a suspect in a break-and-enter at a business on Tecumseh Road West.  The charges have not been proven in court.
