COVID-19 assessment centres to close next month

After three years in operation, the COVID-19 assessment centres at Windsor Regional Hospital and Erie Shores Health Care are closing their doors.

With a significant drop in patients accessing the centres, they will stop operations on April 1.

“The decision to close the clinics is based on a significant decrease in the number of patients seeking treatment,” said Kristin Kennedy, ESHC president and CEO. “It is important to note that COVID is still prevalent in our community, and we urge anyone who feels unwell to continue taking precautions to help limit the spread of respiratory ailments.”

Since its opening in March 2020, WRH has seen over 191,000 patients while ESHC has treated 64,000 patients.

“The Assessment Centre was instrumental in meeting the needs of the community during the peak of the pandemic giving residents a much-needed alternative to our emergency department,” said David Musyj, WRH president and CEO.

Residents experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should seek treatment from their primary health providers and walk-in and urgent care clinics.
