LaSalle is the latest municipality to ban the popular video app TikTok from it's town-owned devices.
During Tuesday's regular meeting, Councillor Terry Burns brought forward a motion for staff to vote on calling for the immediate removal of the social media app from all corporately owned devices and issued devices.
Burns' motion cited concerns about how TikTok poses a risk to the privacy and security of the information of the Town's employees, residents and those that visit the community.
"I think it's necessary for us to protect the integrity of our data within our systems," said Burns. "If our federal government and our provincial government and some of our police forces in other municipalities are looking at [banning TikTok], I think it can be a short-term solution until we really know and find out exactly what TikTok is doing."
Burns' motion was seconded by Councillor Sue Desjarlais and passed by the majority of council members.
