Budget pressures in the City of Windsor continue to increase ahead of deliberations next month.
The 2023 draft budget was originally presented with an increase of 5.23 per cent. In January, the Operating Budget Review Committee approved savings to bring the increase down to 4.59 per cent.
Now, additional non-discretionary expenditures like a reduction in expected gas tax refund increased land ambulance fees, and increased insurance costs have resulted in an additional $1.5 million in the city's budget. That brings the proposed increase to 5.02 per cent.
City council will meet on April 3 to discuss the budget and set the final municipal tax levy. City administration has been tasked with finding any additional potential savings options.
