Raffle raises $17K for Ukrainian children

A rare firearm has been raffled to support children in war-torn Ukraine.

General Gun and Supply in Windsor hosted a cheque presentation on Saturday, where $17,000 was raised in an effort called “Canadian Firearm Owners Stand With Ukraine”.

The money was raised through the purchase of raffle tickets at $20 apiece, with the prize a rare Weatherby firearm.

Essex MP Chris Lewis joined Chris Profota, Canadian Rep Principal at Weatherby, Inc., and Jenn Gadbois, the managing director of the Canadian Sporting Arms and Ammunition Association (CSAAA), in presenting the cheque to two representatives from the Ukrainian National Federation and the Ukraine Canada Congress.

"It was an honour to partner with Chris Profota and Jenn Gadbois, on this nationwide fundraiser for children in Ukraine," said Lewis in a media release. "It was also great to see so many from the legal firearm community step up and buy a ticket."

Gadbois said the fundraiser was an indication of Canada's large community of business owners.

"Our membership base is small business owners throughout Canada and they're always trying to give back to the community," said Gadbois. "So what better way to give back to the community and show our support than join on with Chris Profota and Chris Lewis on this great initiative."

The cheque presentation came as the world observed the first anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
