'Grandparent scam' costs Windsor woman $6,000

Windsor police say a resident has been swindled out of thousands of dollars in another instance of the so-called "grandparent scam."

Investigators say the woman, who lives in the area of Bertha Road and Riverside Drive East, received a call on Monday, February 13, from someone pretending to be her granddaughter. The caller claimed that they needed money to escape a legal jam.

Police say the suspect drove to the woman's house and picked up $6,000 in cash.

An image of the suspect's vehicle was released, and the public is asked to take a look. The suspect is described as a short White female with brown hair. She wore a safety vest and drove a small white car.

Anyone with information on this incident, or who can identify the vehicle, should call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477) to be eligible for a cash reward.
