The Harrow Streetscape Project has received a $250,000 grant to boost business development, attract new investors, and create jobs.
The federal government's My Main Street Community Activator program, operated by the Canadian Urban Institute, chose the project.
The institute offers policymakers, urban professionals, civic and business leaders, and community activists a platform to share and develop ideas. Its mission is to ensure Canada builds equitable, liveable, and resilient cities and towns.
"Main streets play a vital role in growing local communities and economies for everyone," said FedDev Ontario Minister Filomena Tassi. "The Government of Canada will continue to invest in My Main Street and the small businesses the programs serves."
Streetscaping in downtown Harrow is revitalizing the area, and increasing economic development throughout the Town of Essex, said a release from the town.
The grant helped pay for new bike racks, benches, waste/recycling receptacles, light fixtures, banners, and landscaping.
