After ten years, three of them through the pandemic, the Director of Education at the Greater Essex County District School Board is retiring.
The Board of Trustees has begun the hiring process for the next Director of Education.
Under Erin Kelly's leadership, the board has taken steps to improve educational opportunities for students who were, in the past, marginalized.
"The community partnerships we have established have had and will have great value," said Kelly. "We have begun some important work with anti-racism practices and initiatives that are breaking down barriers for all students."
Kelly has also overseen the construction of new schools in Windsor-Essex, including the new high school in Amherstburg, a combined elementary school in Forest Glade in Windsor, and the new JK to Grade 12 school in Kingsville.
"Director Kelly has led us through some difficult times, especially the unique challenges of maintaining quality public education during the COVID pandemic," said Chair of the Board of Trustees, Gale Simko-Hatfield. "Erin has also been instrumental in guiding our board with her innovative work in creating a sustainable process for strategic and organizational planning."
Kelly's last day is August 11.
