WRH receives Distinction in Stroke Services

Windsor Regional Hospital has received accreditation from Accreditation Canada's Stroke Distinction program.

The hospital now has Distinction in Stroke Services for 2022 to 2026. This recognizes the hospital's "clinical excellence and outstanding commitment to leadership in stroke care."

“This achievement is a result of the commitment from leadership and the dedicated, talented frontline staff that provide excellent care every day. The team is looking forward to ongoing opportunities to build on the work that has been done to further strengthen the program,” said Denise St. Louis, manager of the District Stroke Centre Windsor-Essex.

The hospital applied for the distinction and a surveyor was sent to the hospital to evaluate the emergency room, CT, ICU, Urgent TIA Clinic, and Acute Stroke Unit in November.

The hospital was recognized for the skills of their staff, their partnership with EMS, and the minimal wait time within the Urgent TIA Clinic.

In 2021-22, Windsor Regional Hospital had 968 referrals to the Urgent TIA/ Secondary Stroke Prevention Clinic, admitted 501 patients with stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) to the acute stroke unit – and 175 of those patients required inpatient rehabilitation.
