Virtual town halls set for Windsor consumption site

The issue of Windsor's planned safe consumption site will be discussed at a series of virtual town halls this week.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU), which is behind the application for a Consumption and Treatment Service (CTS) site, has scheduled three virtual meetings, with the first one set for Tuesday evening, focusing on downtown businesses.

The meetings will be held in partnership with the CTS Stakeholder Advisory Committee and are open to residents, along with business owners and agencies in the downtown area.

Each meeting will include a presentation about the CTS site's upcoming launch, including how it will operate, how safety and security concerns will be dealt with, and how issues should be reported once the CTS opens.

The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer period. Panelists representing the health unit, the Windsor-Essex Community Health Centre, Windsor police, Pozitive Pathways Community Service, Family Services Windsor Essex, and Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare will be available.

Meetings will also be held on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Wednesday's event will concentrate on residents, and Thursday's meeting will focus on agencies in the downtown area. Each event is on from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The planned CTS will be located on Goyeau Street near Wyandotte Street East.

To register for one of the meetings, visit the health unit's Eventbrite page.
