Essex seeking youth members of council

The Town of Essex is seeking young people looking for a chance to break into politics and help their community.

Town Council is looking for two students to serve as Youth Council Members for the current term, which ends in the fall of 2026.

"Serving as a Youth Council Member is a great opportunity for students to get involved and develop their knowledge of local government," said Mayor Sherry Bondy. "While they do not vote on Council motions, they are free to advocate for their community and bring relevant issues to the table for debate."

Similar to youth positions on local school boards, Youth Council Members attend council meetings and present periodic reports to councillors and administration.

For those interested in this volunteer role, applicants must be under the age of 18, and a resident of the Town of Essex. Applicants must also be enrolled in school full-time.

Students are asked to submit their names in writing, along with a brief outline stating why they would make a good Youth Council Member, no later than Friday, February 3. Applications can also be submitted online through the Town's official website.
