Ontario's law-enforcement oversight agency has taken over the investigation into the death of an Amherstburg man.
Officers from Windsor police's Amherstburg detachment were called to an apartment on Dalhousie Street at around 10 a.m. Tuesday on a domestic call.
The man did now answer the door, so officers obtained a warrant and entered, finding the 80-year-old man with serious injuries. The man was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Windsor police contacted the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate. Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned.
A post-mortem has been scheduled for Wednesday.
