Inflation and police costs driving LaSalle budget up

LaSalle residents could see their property taxes increase by 5.25 per cent this year.

If the draft budget is approved without changes, the 2023 municipal levy would increase by $2.9 million over the 2022 budget. The increases come from policing costs, inflationary changes, and increased contributions to capital reserves.

“Although the rate of inflation has significantly increased in 2022, the Town is still on pace to achieve its strategic goals with a responsible tax rate increase below the rate of inflation. Our goal is to recognize the current inflationary environment while maintaining current levels of service and continuing to fund the Town’s strategic goals,” said Dale Langlois, director of finance/treasurer.

Residents who have questions about this year's budget will have a chance to ask town staff at a budget open house on Wednesday, January 25.

Town council will deliberate the budget from February 8-10. The meetings are open to the public and will be streamed on the Town of LaSalle YouTube channel.
