Windsor property owners may have to open their wallets a little wider in 2023.
The City of Windsor has posted the documentation for its 2023 draft budget, ahead of the budget committee's review, set for the week of January 23. The draft budget includes a preliminary property tax increase of 5.23 per cent.
Members of City Council had suggested the creation of a new working committee ahead of budget deliberations, so they can get a better understanding of the estimates that are being considered by the City administration. The committee includes all current council members except for Mayor Drew Dilkens.
According to the draft budget's executive summary, if the tax levy stood as proposed, a shade less than $461-million would be raised. Based on the planned 5.23 per cent hike, about $13-million of it would cover total operating needs for City departments. It would also account for $4.5-million in requested increases made by the City's agencies, boards, and committees; and $5-million for an asset management plan that was previously approved by City Council.
The draft budget also recommends about $10.3-million in cuts and reductions.
City Council deliberations are currently set for April.
The complete draft budget summary can be found on the City's official website.
