A Leamington man has been arrested after Windsor police say he burglarized a downtown grocery multiple times.
Police confirmed via Twitter Friday afternoon that the 47-year-old man has been charged.
The thefts took place at LaVern's on the corner of University Avenue West and Pelissier. The business' owner, Vern Myslichuk, posted photos of the damage online, along with a video of the suspect entering the store and leaving with a supply of pastries, later identified as butter tarts.
Myslichuk had been critical of police protection in the downtown core and had called on the City of Windsor to provide more resources to downtown businesses.
"Small business needs a lot of help to continue to keep doors open," Myslichuk wrote on his Facebook page. "Where are the resources that gave out all the tickets to the hard-working small business two years ago? How about we bring them back to fight real crime?"
Police say the suspect has been arrested twice within the last three weeks for breaking into the business.
The charges have not been proven in court.
