ERCA warns residents to avoid low-lying areas

The Essex Region Conservation Authority estimates about 10 mm of rain has fallen on the region, but with more on the way, it has issued a watershed condition statement.

Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning on Monday night, saying some parts of Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent could get up to 45 mm of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.

ERCA anticipates about 30 mm of rain before it ends, not enough to trigger a flood watch but enough to cause concern about standing water in low-lying areas of the county and on flood plains around major waterways.

The agency urges residents to avoid standing water, rivers, streams, and shoreline areas. It said slippery banks and fast-running water could be dangerous.

The watershed condition statement is in effect until 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
