A 16-year-old driver has found out the hard way police have no tolerance for stunt driving.
LaSalle Police clocked the teen allegedly driving 94 km/h in a 50 km/h zone last Friday night.
The penalty for stunt driving in an area where the speed limit is less than 80 km/h is six demerit points, a 30-day license suspension, and a fine of up to $10,000. The vehicle will also be impounded for two weeks.
If the teen is convicted, he could lose his license for a year and possibly face six months behind bars.
The same night, LaSalle Police officers spotted another vehicle swerving. When they stopped it, they charged a 43-year-old man with driving impaired.
Police conducted RIDE programs throughout LaSalle last Friday night. In addition to screening drivers for impaired driving, they issued citations for traffic-related infractions, including burnt-out headlights, expired license plates, and failing to wear seat belts.
