Officials at Windsor Regional Hospital are hopeful influenza and RSV cases are reaching a peak in the community.
"Hopefully, by the end of December, hopefully, we're descending on the influenza peak. Hopefully, we're descending on the RSV peak and therefore our respiratory numbers will go back to like October," said David Musyj, Windsor Regional Hospital CEO.
He said even if that happens, the hospital will be seeing a high number of cases on a daily basis.
In October, 22 patients were admitted with RSV and 27 were admitted with influenza. In November, that climbed to 71 with RSV and 116 with influenza. Current trends for the month of December show RSV cases may have peaked while influenza cases continue to increase.
"We're starting to see our numbers in the peds program in-patient kind of stabilize a bit or actually the admission rate going down a little bit, but I can tell you across the province that is not what's happening," said Musyj.
It's also predicted COVID-19 cases could increase after the holidays but right now the number of patients admitted is declining.
As of the morning of December 8, the Met campus was running at 102 per cent capacity and Ouellette campus was at 103 per cent capacity.
The Adult and Paediatric Respiratory Clinic continues to see around 50-100 patients a day. It's recommended patients seek care from their primary healthcare providers first, but appointments can be made at the clinic here.
