The Town of Amherstburg is looking for another extension for the deadline to renew its contract with Windsor Police.
Amherstburg signed a five-year term starting January 1, 2019, but either side has to give notice 18 months before the end of the contract if it wishes to end the agreement.
Amherstburg committed to consulting with the public about its experience with Windsor Police before renewing its contract, and it hasn't done it yet.
The first deadline to notify Windsor Police was this past April, but high turnover among its administrative staff made it impossible. So, they pushed it back to June 30 and then December 31.
Now the administration wants to push that back to March 31, 2023.
Meeting the end of the year deadline would require public consultations to start immediately, and town councillors have a lot on their plate this month. It elected a new mayor, Michael Prue, and a new council in October.
The administration said by pushing the deadline back to March, it would have time to consult with the public and submit a report to councillors in January.
