Over $218,000 has been raised during the Windsor-Essex Easter Seals Ontario Telethon as the organization celebrates 100 years of helping kids with disabilities
The annual event, presented by the Toldo Foundation, was held on Saturday.
Telethon Committee Chair Ram Sridhar said it was great to once again host a live event, following two years of pandemic restrictions.
"I always say the telethon is also about the community, it's not just about raising funds, it's about getting everybody together and experiencing it," he said. "When you do a telethon, you get to see all aspects of these kids and their families, and their lives."
The Toldo Foundation donated $100,000 toward the grand total of $218,657.
Sridhar said the amount "significantly surpassed" what was raised last year.
The telethon has been around for 40 years but Easter Seals Ontario was started by the Rotary Club in Windsor on November 28, 1922.
"It's the ultimate Windsor charity and it's been around for 100 years," Sridhar said. "We're hoping to be around 100 years more."
Easter Seals Ontario provides life-changing programs to children and youth with physical disabilities. Sridhar wasn't able to provide specific numbers at the time, but said the organization supports hundreds of children and youth locally.
