Driver charged after weekend collision in Lakeshore

A 20-year-old driver is now facing multiple charges after a crash over the weekend.

Ontario Provincial Police say it happened shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday. Officers from the Lakeshore detachment responded to a single-vehicle collision on King James Avenue.

Constable Steven Duguay said that officers determined that the driver had taken the vehicle without permission, lost control, and hit a road sign. While speaking with the driver, officers determined that they were impaired and took them to the detachment for testing.

The driver from Windsor has been charged with operating while impaired, operating with over 80 milligrams of alcohol or drugs in blood, taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, failure to comply with a release order, failure to comply with a probation order, and five counts of operating while prohibited.

The charges have not been proven in court. The suspect was released from custody with a future date set at a Windsor court.
