Upgrades made to cancer centre thanks to major donation

Funds raised through the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation this year are going toward major upgrades to the Windsor Regional Cancer Program.

The foundation raised $740,620. The money is going toward upgrades to the pharmacy, radiation tools, and patient programs.

"The foundation is so phenomenal at supporting our staff and at supporting patients across disease sites. So breast cancer patients, prostate patients, anyone who needs our services, their donations support true day-to-day patient care," said Director of Cancer Services Nicole Sbrocca.

Sbrocca said the pharmacy team is particularly excited about the upgrades to their department.

"We have a new state-of-the-art sterile hazardous compounding facility or clean room which is essentially a new pharmacy where we make all of our anti-cancer drugs for our patients that are in what's typically known as our chemo suite," said Sbrocca.

The funds were presented from the foundation at a presentation on Wednesday morning.

“We are pleased to provide funds that will support so many areas within the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, ensuring the Windsor Regional Cancer Program remains one of the leading programs in Ontario,” said Houida Kassem, Executive Director of the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation.
