Windsor-built Pacifica helps fuel Chrysler Q3 sales

The continued rise in sales of a Windsor-built minivan has contributed to an increase in sales for Stellantis Canada.

The automaker released on Tuesday its Canadian sales figures for the third quarter of 2022. Overall, sales of Stellantis brands were up 15 per cent in the quarter compared to the third quarter of 2021. The total annual sales to date are also up, by seven percent.

"Our solid momentum through 2022 continued in the third quarter thanks to a strong product mix on the ground and the efforts of our dealers and employees," said Fiat-Chrysler Canada President and CEO David Buckingham. "The company continues to lay the groundwork for its Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, with exciting previews of battery electric vehicles announced by both the Dodge and Jeep brands this past quarter."

The third-quarter increase is also attributed to the continued rise in sales by the Windsor-created Chrysler Pacifica. The minivan's sales in the third quarter were up by 11 per cent over 2021, with 1,792 vehicles sold in Canada. A quarter of those vehicles sold were the Hybrid PHEV, which rewards customers with an all-electric range of more than 50 kilometres.

The Pacifica continued to roar back when it came to sales in all of 2022, with a 53 per cent increase to 5,989 units sold.

Despite a drop-off in the third quarter, the Windsor-built Chrysler Grand Caravan has also made strides this year to date. Stellantis reported an overall 19 per cent increase in sales, even when falling off by 56 per cent compared to the same quarter last year.

For other Stellantis Canada makes, all Dodge models saw sales increases in the third quarter, with the Durango setting a quarterly sales record. Sales of the Dodge Ram pickup trucks are also up 29 per cent.

Sales of the Jeep Wrangler went up 11 per cent for the quarter, with the 4xe model holding the title of Canada's most popular plug-in hybrid.
