Officials at Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island hope the lifting of all border restrictions will bring back the casual visitor from across the border.
But CEO Gordon Orr says it's going to take more than one weekend to attract those visitors back.
"What we want to do is welcome back those American visitors that know about our memorable experiences on this side of the border, remind them about what they are and let them know that now, they are much easier to get to," said Orr. "We know that over time habits change and as those habits change you break the cycle."
Before the pandemic, 33 per cent of all visitors to Caesars Windsor were American. American visitors also made up about 25 per cent of the traffic to the area wineries.
On Saturday, all COVID-19-related travel restrictions were lifted at the Canadian border, and visitors were no longer required to use the ArriveCan App.
Tourist organizations and border city mayors have been calling for this for more than a year to bring back tourist traffic.
Orr said it is all about removing any barriers.
"If you're driving around on a Saturday afternoon and decide with those in the car that you're going to cross the international border, you're not going to have to worry about doing so, and you're not going to have to go through that extra effort," said Orr.
Orr said American's considering crossing the border can visit the TWEPI website for tips to make crossing the border easy.
