OPP turn up drugs, cash, loaded handgun during Hwy. 401 traffic stop

A Windsor man has more than a speeding ticket to pay for after a traffic stop on Hwy. 401 on Saturday.

An Ontario Provincial Police officer from the Lakeshore detachment stopped a vehicle speeding along the highway around 1 p.m.

While talking to the driver, he discovered the man had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

That led to a search which turned up some prohibited weapons, including a loaded handgun, cash, drug paraphernalia, suspected cocaine and opiates.

The 41-year-old now faces 18 charges, including three counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, eight counts of possessing a firearm while prohibited, transporting a firearm carelessly, and careless storage of a firearm.
