Kingsville mayor position to remain vacant

The mayor's position in Kingsville will stay vacant until the next election.

Nelson Santos resigned from the position as of July 17, 2022, but the position was not declared vacant until Monday night's council meeting.

Deputy Mayor Gord Queen told WindsorNewsToday.ca due to the timing of the next election, councillors decided to keep the spot empty.

"I am the Deputy Mayor and if there are actions that are required, as acting mayor I can fit in temporarily," said Queen.

The council could have decided to appoint a current member of the council to the position, but that would have left another seat around the table vacant.

The election will be held on October 24, 2022.
