Playground upgrades begin Monday at LaSalle park

The Town of LaSalle is about to start a project to make one of its parks more accessible.

Work is expected to begin on Monday to upgrade the playground at John Dupuis Park, on Hazel and Superior Streets, to improve the pay area's accessibility.

Crews will replace the protective base around the playground from a pea stone foundation to engineered wood fibre. The improvement will help strengthen the structure's base and allow children with disabilities and their caregivers to move through the play area more easily.

For those in the neighbourhood who use the park, the playground equipment will be closed for about three weeks while the work is completed.

The town is putting $54,000 toward this project, and the upgrade is also being supported by a $100,000 grant from the Economic and Social Development Canada, Accessible Community Playgrounds Grant program.

Four other parks in the Town of LaSalle have already been upgraded, including Jim Chappus Park, Meo Park, Ojibway Oaks Park, and Paul Wilkinson Park.
