The Municipality of Leamington is warning drivers about some upcoming construction at the intersection of Ellison Avenue and Sherk Street.
The municipal council approved the improvements in March, and the work should start on July 4. Depending on the weather, the project could wrap up in mid-September.
In addition to a new traffic signal, contractors will install new street lighting along Ellison between the Leamington Trail and Sherk Street, a new sidewalk, a left-hand turn for northbound traffic on Sherk, and new curbs.
The project is expected to cost $541,826.
In an online questionnaire, residents identified the corner as one of the three busiest intersections for pedestrians and cyclists in Leamington.
It is near three schools, Margaret D. Bennie Public School, Cardinal Carter Catholic Middle School, and Cardinal Carter Catholic High School. It is also the main access to the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre and close to the Leamington Trail and Leamington Waterfront Complex.
During construction, drivers should anticipate temporary lane closures.
