Police arrest two people in Amherstburg

Two people were arrested in Amherstburg after a speeding vehicle failed to stop for police officers.

Around 10:20 p.m. Monday, patrol officers saw a vehicle speeding westbound on County Road 20. Officers tried to stop the vehicle but it kept going. Officers decided not to pursue the vehicle because of concerns about public safety.

The suspect's vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle accident a short time later. The two occupants were seen leaving the vehicle.  The K9 unit helped to search for the suspects.  They were found and arrested.

A man was charged with the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, and failing to comply with a release order. A woman was arrested and charged with an offense unrelated to the collision.

Police are asking anyone in the area of Front Road and Middle Side Road with surveillance cameras to check their footage for possible evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact WPS Amherstburg Detachment at 519-736-8559, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS), or online at www.catchcrooks.com.
