Two hurt after boat hits break wall

The Ontario Provincial Police has charged a Detroit man after a 32-foot vessel on Lake St. Clair hit a break wall in Tecumseh over the weekend.

Police responded to the crash just before midnight on Saturday after the boat with eight passengers struck the break wall at 14000 Riverside Drive East, the location of the Beach Grove Golf and Country Club.

Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated in the hospital.

The OPP said 51-year-old Lawrence Hayes Bascomb of Detroit faces two charges, including operating the vessel while impaired.

The passengers on the vessel were turned over to the Canada Border Services Agency.

The charges have not been proven in court, and Bascomb has a court date in the Ontario Court of Justice.

The OPP reminds the public to call 911 immediately if they suspect someone is operating a vessel while impaired.
