A Windsor-Essex man and woman are the latest COVID-19 casualties in the Windsor area.
A man in his 90s and a woman in her 70s have passed away from the virus, according to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. This brings the Windsor-Essex pandemic death toll to 610.
There were 74 new cases reported Friday in high-risk settings, pushing the active caseload to 315.
As of 1 p.m. Friday, at least 45 patients were being treated for COVID-19 in hospital. There were 39 cases at Windsor Regional Hospital, with 21 admitted primarily for the virus. Out of the 39 patients, 33 were fully vaccinated. Three patients are in intensive care, with two admitted for COVID-19.
There were six additional cases at Erie Shores Healthcare, with three admitted for COVID-19 infections being the chief complaint.
The health unit is currently tracking 29 active outbreaks, with 21 in long-term care or retirement facilities. Four more are in hospitals, three are in the community, and one is in the workplace.
