UPDATE: Human remains uncovered in Kingsville

Provincial police in Essex County have concluded their investigation after human remains were uncovered by an excavation crew in Kingsville on Tuesday.

The Ontario Provincial Police released few details, but said the remains were uncovered at around 2 p.m. Police have not confirmed where the crew was working. The scene was secured and the Regional Coroner's Office and a Forensic Anthropologist was called in to assist.

In an update provided shortly after 7 p.m., OPP announced the investigation is finished.

"After thorough examination by a Forensic Anthropologist, it has been determined that the located human remains will not be part of a criminal investigation and have been determined to be historic in nature," read a statement from provincial police.

The remains have been reported to the Registrar Funeral Burial and Cremation Services of the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services. There will be no further police investigation.
