Essex County in transition

Essex County Warden Gary McNamara is focusing on steering the region through a time of transition

At the 15th annual Windsor Regional Chamber of Commerce luncheon, McNamara said the county is focusing on ensuring the right infrastructure is in place to support the changing needs of the community.

The region has experienced tremendous growth in the last five years and McNamara expects that to continue with the recent announcement of the LG/Stellantis electric vehicle battery plant.

"Just like it was back in 1904 when Ford and GM and Chrysler established here, this is a foothold and a foundational piece that we need to secure the jobs for the future," said McNamara.

He said the County of Essex is doing its part to make sure the right infrastructure is in place to support the plant and all of the supply chain pieces.

"You're going to see the county putting infrastructure in place to accommodate the growth because obviously, it's so much easier when you've got the infrastructure in place prior to bringing in housing developments and commercial developments," said McNamara.

With the provincial election on the horizon, McNamara indicated he'd like to see a commitment from all candidates on several key issues facing the region including the completion of the new hospital, affordable housing, and broadband connectivity.
