Windsor-Essex's three hospital systems have not reported much change in the number of patients being treated for COVID-19.
As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, the total number of people hospitalized for the virus in the region was at least 26. The figure does not count the total at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, which only reported less than five patients as of Tuesday.
The lion's share of cases remains at Windsor Regional Hospital, with 22 people admitted, and only eight were hospitalized primarily for COVID-19. Eleven of the 22 patients have been fully vaccinated, with the rest either partially vaccinated or not at all. Three of the patients are in intensive care, all with the virus as the chief concern, and all of them fully vaccinated.
At Erie Shores Healthcare, the case count remains at four. Two of them are being treated primarily for COVID-19, and three of the four have been fully vaccinated.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 77 new high-risk cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday and no new deaths.
The active caseload is up from 227 to 255. The number of active outbreaks is at 12, with six apiece in the community and long-term care. There are no known outbreaks at workplaces or in hospital wards at this time.
