The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported one death from COVID-19 on Tuesday.
A woman in her 70s, living in the community, is the latest to pass away from the virus, bringing the Windsor-Essex death toll to 573.
The health unit reported 72 new cases in high-risk settings Tuesday, but that number may be an underestimate due to the current testing guidelines.
Hospitalizations due to the virus are still on the decline. As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, there was a total of 38 people being treated in hospital for COVID-19.
Twenty-five of those cases are at Windsor Regional Hospital, with 11 admitted with the virus as the main complaint. Eighteen of those patients are fully vaccinated, the rest either partially vaccinated or not at all. Four patients are in intensive care, all of them fully vaccinated.
At Erie Shores Healthcare, there were 13 people admitted, with ten of them hospitalized due to COVID-19. Nine of the patients are fully vaccinated.
There were no active cases at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare.
The active caseload has dropped below the 500-mark, to 496. The number of active outbreaks is down to 32, with 13 in the community, 11 in long-term care facilities, six in workplaces, and two in hospital units.
