Hospitalizations for COVID-19 remain stable in Windsor-Essex

Windsor-Essex's hospitals have not felt an additional pinch of COVID-19 patients in recent days, according to figures released Wednesday.

As of 4 p.m., there were 67 people with COVID-19 in the region's three hospital systems. Windsor Regional Hospital reported 53 patients, with 26 of them in hospital because of COVID-19.

WRH said 30 of those patients are fully vaccinated, with the rest of them either not or partially vaccinated. Five people are in intensive care, and all are fully vaccinated.

Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare had just one fully-vaccinated COVID-19 patient as of Wednesday. At Erie Shores Healthcare, there were 12 people being treated, with nine of them primarily for COVID-19. Seven of those people are fully vaccinated.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported one death Wednesday, a woman in her 90s living in the community, bringing the regional death toll to 570.

There were 136 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in high-risk settings, though the actual number may be higher due to current testing guidelines. The active caseload went up slightly to 695.

The health unit is monitoring a total of 48 outbreaks, with 19 in the community, 15 in LTC facilities, eight in workplaces, and six in hospitals.
