Wanted man found hiding in Tecumseh barn

A man has been held after first running from, then hiding from Ontario Provincial Police Wednesday.

Officers at the Essex County OPP detachment on Manning Road in Tecumseh were contacted about a person who was going to visit the detachment to turn himself in.

Constable Steven Duguay said the man arrived at the detachment shortly after noon with family members accompanying him. He then bolted from the family vehicle in the parking lot and took off running into an adjacent field.

Patrol officers, who were worried about the man's well-being since he was not dressed properly for the weather, went to the area to search for him, accompanied by the OPP K-9 Unit. Several hours later, General Service Dog "Blitz" found the suspect hiding in a barn on Concession Road 11.

The man was helped from the barn and checked out by paramedics. He was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.

The OPP would like to thank the property owner, who helped transport the man from the woodlot on his land to waiting paramedics.
