Over the weekend, Windsor-Essex reached an important vaccine milestone with 80 per cent of people aged five and older vaccinated with two doses.
Nearly 50 per cent of people 18 and older have also gotten the booster shot.
The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 500 new high-risk cases over the weekend. Due to current testing eligibility, only vulnerable individuals are being tested at this time. There are 3,344 known active cases in the community. That's down from 3,563 cases on Friday.
Local hospitals are reporting 115 patients in their care, down from 128 patients on Friday.
At Windsor Regional Hospital, there are 83 patients who have tested positive for the virus, 48 of them are in hospital primarily for the treatment of COVID-19. There are 12 COVID-19 positive patients in the ICU and nine of them are primarily being treated for the virus. Among the patients in the ICU for treatment of COVID-19, seven are unvaccinated, one is partially vaccinated, and one is fully vaccinated.
Erie Shores Healthcare has 13 patients who have tested positive for the virus. Of those seven have been admitted due to complications from the virus and six have been admitted for other reasons.
Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare has 19 COVID-19 positive patients.
The health unit is monitoring 88 active outbreaks. There are 30 long-term care or retirement homes, 11 hospital units, 33 community, and 14 workplace outbreaks.
A man in his 80s who lived in a long-term care facility became the 526th Windsor-Essex resident to pass away after testing positive for the virus.
