COVID-19 claims two more Windsor-Essex residents

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 312 new cases and two new COVID-19 related deaths on Wednesday.

A woman in her 80s and a woman in her 90s passed away after testing positive for the virus.  There have been 521 death in Windsor-Essex associated with COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

There are 4,066 known active cases in the community. However, due to current testing eligibility, that number is likely much higher.

Local hospitals are treating 128 patients who have tested positive.

At Windsor Regional Hospita,l there are 102 positive patients admitted and 70 of them have been admitted primarily for the treatment of COVID-19 symptoms. There are eight patients admitted to the intensive care unit because of complications from the virus, of whom seven are unvaccinated and one is partially vaccinated.

Erie Shores Healthcare has six patients in its care. Three of them are vaccinated and three are unvaccinated.

Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare has 20 patients who have tested positive. Of those, 18 are fully vaccinated and two are unvaccinated.

Outbreaks are being monitored on 10 hospital units. There are also 35 community outbreaks, 12 workplace outbreaks and 26 outbreaks at long-term care or retirement homes. Because of current testing eligibility outbreaks at most workplaces are not being tracked.
