There are now over 100 people in Windsor-Essex hospitals who have tested positive for COVID-19.
As of Thursday night, Windsor Regional Hospital had 84 patients who tested positive for the virus. Erie Shores Healthcare said it was treating 13.
Forty-nine patients at Windsor Regional were admitted primarily for COVID-19 symptoms, and 12 are in intensive care, half of them unvaccinated.
The ratio of unvaccinated patients at the hospital in Leamington being treated primarily for the virus is the same. Of the ten undergoing treatment for COVID-19, five have not had their shots.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit's hospitalization rate is higher because it collects data in the morning. It said the number of patients had grown to 104, up from 95 on Thursday.
The numbers show the growing burden in area hospitals.
Meanwhile, the region lost two more residents to the pandemic, a woman in her 60s and another in her 80s.
The health unit reported those fatalities along with another 270 cases of COVID-19.
In the past seven days, the health unit has reported 2,546 new cases. However, it acknowledges that is likely far below the true number since case management is now focused on high-risk settings.
Of the new cases, 252 remain under investigation, while ten people caught the virus in the community. Six others are outbreak-related, and two are the result of close contact.
The number of active cases the health unit knows about has swelled to 3,716.
It is tracking 67 outbreaks.
Community outbreaks have swelled to 29, while public health officials continue to monitor the situation at 24 retirement and long-term care homes. Eight workplace and six hospital outbreaks are under surveillance too.
