OPP charge 17 people with impaired driving over holiday campaign

The Essex County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police charged 17 drivers with impaired driving during the Festive Ride campaign this year.

Over the course of the campaign which ran from November 18 to January 2, the OPP held 74 RIDE events across the region.

Another 10 drivers were issued warning suspensions after roadside breath tests registered a blood alcohol concentration of between .05 and .08.

Throughout the province, the OPP held 8,370 RIDE events and charged 655 drivers with impaired driving and issued 236 warn range suspensions.

The OPP is also thanking 3,147 callers who called to report suspected impaired drivers during the annual campaign.

The OPP will continue to conduct RIDE events throughout the year on roads, trails, and waterways throughout the province.
