Catholic board dismisses three classes from H.J. Lassaline

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has directed the English Catholic school board to send students home from a Windsor school due to COVID-19.

A total of three classes were dismissed Wednesday from H.J. Lassaline Catholic Elementary School after two confirmed positive cases of the virus were found there. Board spokesman Stephen Fields said the affected students have been told to stay home from school Thursday.

"The health unit will notify those students when they are able to return to school," said Fields. "We have been working with the health unit by providing lists of students and staff who may have been directly affected. The health unit is contacting any individuals, both students and staff, who may have been affected, and will give directions for them to follow."

Parents are asked to continue monitoring their kids for COVID-19 symptoms, and if they have any, to keep them home and get tested.

As of Wednesday evening, there was a total of 23 active student cases within the board. A sum of 21 classes was sent home.

The board has also reminded parents that no automated phone calls concerning class dismissals will be made between this Saturday, and Sunday, January 2, 2022, as schools are on the winter holiday break.

Five new cases were confirmed Wednesday at the Greater Essex County District School Board. There were two at Giles Campus French Immersion in Windsor, and one each at Amherstburg Public School, D.M. Eagle Public in Tecumseh, and Kingsville Public School. The public board does not identify the number of classes sent home.
