The 29-year-old Leamington man was charged with operating while impaired, operating with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, failure to remain at the scene of a crash, being a novice driver with a BAC over zero, and being a G-1 licence holder without a qualified driver present.

The second crash occurred at around 10:30 p.m., officers from the OPP Essex detachment responded to a single-vehicle crash on Laird Avenue in Essex.

The officer noticed that the driver was allegedly drinking, and a roadside screening test was administered. Two breath samples were taken, and both came out over the legal limit.
