The proposed 2022 City of Windsor budget includes $10.3 million in capital improvements for Huron Lodge over the next 10 years.
Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, along with Executive Director/Administrator of Huron Lodge Long-Term Care Home Alina Sirbu, highlighted the improvements to come during a news conference on Thursday.
"We are looking to replace all of the necessary kitchen and dietary equipment, the resident beds, the call system, to improve the quality of life as we always try to," said Sirbu.
The proposed budget also includes building repairs and new medication safety initiatives.
"The health, safety and well-being of our residents is always our first priority. These investments in Huron Lodge will improve services and ensure we can continue to meet the physical and emotional needs of residents and enhance their quality of life,” said Commissioner of Human and Health Services Jelena Payne.
Officials also planted a tree outside the home to commemorate the sacrifice and determination shown by residents, staff, and their families throughout the pandemic.
The 2022 budget will be deliberated on Monday, December 13.
