LaSalle's draft budget calls for 1.75 per cent increase in 2022

So far, the Town of LaSalle's spending plan for next year calls for a $1.7-million increase or another 1.75 per cent in the municipal levy.

The draft budget is out and posted on the town's municipal webpage.

The increase would bring the general levy up to $40.1-million.

It's also below inflation at a time when the municipality is seeing an increase in inflationary pressures and continued costs associated with COVID-19.

"Although the rate of inflation is significantly increasing in 2021, the town is still on pace to achieve its strategic goals with a responsible tax rate increase well below inflation," said Director of Finance and Treasurer Dale Langlois. "Our goal is to keep the tax rate as low as possible while maintaining current levels of service and continuing to fund the town's strategic goals."

Since the province postponed the Municipal Property Assessment update, property values in 2022 will be the same as 2021 and 2020.

Councillors will deliberate the plan on December 15 and December 16 in a meeting that will be live-streamed on the town's YouTube channel.

Public comments need to be submitted in writing to the Clerk by noon on Friday.
