WECHU reports 75 new cases

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex continues to climb.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 75 new cases in the community Friday morning. That brings the total number of active cases up to 421.

Local hospitals are currently treating 14 patients who have tested positive for the virus. Windsor Regional Hospital reports that, of the 13 patients in its care, seven are unvaccinated and six are vaccinated.

Health Unit staff continue to monitor 31 outbreaks in the community. There are outbreaks at nine schools, two long-term care or retirement homes, nine workplaces, 10 community facilities, and one hospital unit.

On the first day children aged 5-11 were eligible to receive their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, nearly 750 individuals received the first dose.

To date, 86.8 per cent of residents aged 12 and older have gotten at least one shot while 83.4 per cent have received both doses.
