ESHC forming palliative care partnership

Erie Shores Healthcare is teaming up with physicians and healthcare workers who specialize in end-of-life care.

ESHC has announced a partnership with doctors in Windsor-Essex that will result in the coordination of palliative care for area residents. The partnership went live on Monday.

The partnership will grant ESHC privileges to doctors who work with The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County, allowing these doctors to confer with patients, their doctors, and their families on end-of-life treatment plans. The hospital says this partnership will improve symptom management, end-of-life planning, and other characteristics.

"This is a wonderful development for the patients of ESHC," said Chief of Professional Staff Dr. Ross Moncur. "These expert palliative care physicians will assist ESHC in our persistent efforts to provide the best care to our patients, while also helping patients and their families cope with the many burdens of serious illness."

ESHC President and CEO Kristin Kennedy said the partnership will strengthen the hospital's ability to provide specialized care for patients under end-of-life protocol.

"As our hospital's catchment area grows, we see this relationship as an extraordinary service in our ongoing effort to improve access to specialized treatment and care for patients," said Kennedy. "This is just one of the initiatives we are pursuing to enhance our capacity to provide outstanding care close to home."
