One class from an Essex Catholic elementary school will not be returning to school Monday after a confirmed COVID-19 case was discovered there.
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board announced Sunday evening that one class has been dismissed from Holy Name Catholic Elementary School after the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported one case of the virus.
Board spokesman Stephen Field said students will be notified when they are able to return to school.
"We have been working with the Health Unit by providing lists of students and staff who may have been directly affected," said Field. "The health unit is contacting both students and staff who may have been affected and will give directions for them to follow."
Parents are asked to continue self-screening their children each morning before sending them to school. If they have symptoms or feel ill, parents should keep them home and contact their health care provider for further instructions.
New cases of COVID-19 have also been confirmed at two public schools, Belle River Public School and Princess Elizabeth Public School in Windsor.
Princess Elizabeth is one of two schools experiencing outbreaks of COVID-19. The other is Tecumseh Vista Academy.
